My friends kept asking my to do one of my "re-mixtapes" for AZ. Considered "Most Underrated [Rapper] of All Time" to some. For those missing the good old days of hiphop, this Brooklyn native does not disappoint. It's only right I keep the boom-bap element alive on this tape. I ended up “flipping” 9 Songs. A few from the “Pieces of a Man” and “Format“ albums. I have to admit, I slept on AZ for a while. Little did I know his flow and content would fit, perfectly tailored to my production. You'll also hear Little Brother and RZA share the mic on this mixtape.
Some say its a curse but AZ has put out what some say is 4 classic albums in a span of 7 years and still going. Viewed as Nas’s sidekick instead of an artist that really stands on his own two. Sometimes doing these remixes can open on a new adventure where I delve into new territory. Everything about his content, delivery and overall style got me in this zone. I'll be doing more mixtapes for sure.
